Mimi and the Lizard

It's 90* outside.  It's nap time, so I take a second to sit on the couch in my air conditioned family room and check email, Facebook and Pinterest, and my favorite blogs.  Stanley, our dog is sleeping on the wood floor, snoring and twitching.  I'm in a happy place.  Although I have to admit, I am a little on guard when the weather warms up for no other reason than our cats love to bring me "presents."  When it's warm outside, these little gifts are abundant.

So when Stanley perked up out of deep sleep, I perked up as well.  Normally if the cat brings a "present," I'll hear a meow before he jumps through the cat door. Most of the time I get to the door first and close it.  Since I didn't hear a meow, I was sure that it was the gardener's blower or a UPS truck delivering a package that Stanley heard.  Reluctantly, I got up to check.  There under the kitchen table was the cat with a lizard hanging out of his mouth. Awesome (insert panicky, sarcastic tone).  My thoughts are running rampant.

Can I find a way to lure the cat out of the house with the lizard in his mouth without getting close?
No!

Can I rise to the occasion this time?
No!

Maybe it's not a fast one...
Not taking a chance! Avery is sleeping and any movement will send me through the roof.

Would my mom come over and get a lizard again?
Yes!

Here's what transpired...

She makes it look so easy.

Notice the angle. Yes, I'm standing on a kitchen chair with my daughter in my arms, telling her we could see better from up here (not that mommy has an irrational fear of reptiles).

Nice lizard. Looked a lot smaller before I realized it had no tail.

Sorry, Willy, lizards aren't presents in my book.

a different kind of throne...

It has been a few weeks now and I can confidently say, "Someone is potty trained!"

Some cute phrases we heard during the process-

"I'm holding my horses" as she was waiting for her potty to come.

"Here it comes. C'mon potty, you can do it."

"I want to sit on the big egg, not the little one."- the regular toilet seat, not the kid sized potty seat.

"See, that's how you do it."- when she finishes.
